In the early 1900s, Ethel Payne was the daughter of a Pullman Porter with an ear for good stories. She grew up to be called "The First Lady of the Black Press" and was one of the first African-American journalists, asking the tough questions needed to cover the White House and the Civil Rights Movement. A picture book with quite a bit of text -- ages 6-10, we'd guess. But there aren't a lot of opportunities to read about Ms. Payne anywhere, greatly expanding the range of this boldly illustrated book. (Short Discount)
