Rough Cut Emerald Stone
Emeralds have long been used for jewelry and lapidary practices. There uses have been traced back to ancient Egyptian culture 4500 years ago. Currently Columbia is the worlds leading producer of the gemstone. Emeralds are a deep green color in there purest form. Due to there rarity they are highly sought after and higher priced than many other stones. This has caused synthetic versions of the stones to be produced and used in replacement of the real stones. Emerald is a member of the Beryl stone family along with Aquamarine and Morganite. Emerald is the birthstone for the month of May.
