Due to there rarity they are highly sought after and higher priced than many other stones. This has caused synthetic versions of the stones to be produced and used in replacement of the real stones. Emerald is a member of the Beryl stone family along with Aquamarine and Morganite. Emerald is the birthstone for the month of May.
